About the Workshop

Accurate demand forecasting is increasingly critical to the delivery of mission support. A clear understanding of which assets will be required where is integral - not only to force generation and mission readiness - but to cost-efficient acquisition, MRO and mission planning.

Ahead of the main conference proceedings, this workshop session will provide an opportunity to identify the capability requirements of a range of potential future missions. Scenario-based, and organised as a wargame, the session will ask participants to interactively forecast not only force requirements, but the mission support infrastructure required to deliver them. In doing so, it will emphasise both existing gaps in logistical capability, and gaps in our ability to actually deliver a robust approach to prediction. Having done so, the session will move on to assessing how emerging technology can improve the accuracy of forecasting, and will determine the role of improved training in generating the smart decisions necessary to augment supply chain agility.

About the Workshop Leader

Major General (Retd.) Ian Copeland
Former Director, Joint Support Chain, UK Joint Forces Command

Initially commissioned into the Royal Corps of Transport, Major General Copeland held several posts across Army HQ and Joint Forces Command, including Commander of the British Army’s 101 Logistics Support Brigade. His last five years in service were spent in DE&S, ultimately as Director Joint Support Chain, JFC. Whilst there, he oversaw the delivery of the supply chain into Iraq and then Afghanistan.

Leaving the Army in 2014, he walked straight into the MD UK appointment for DynCorp International - a $4Bn company in the US, but a start-up for the UK. After 13 months, he moved on to establish his own limited company, securing the role of technical lead for the HQ Army CSS C2 project. Subsequently, he has worked extensively for the MOD on logistic, cyber, and mentoring projects and has just completed a 6 month contract with Babcock International Group on a training project.
